MEET KAREN
Karen Thurlow is a mom and attorney with a 30-year track record helping to bridge the gap between opposing viewpoints. The daughter of educators, Karen chose to raise her two children in the Blue Valley School District because she knows the importance of strong schools. Her grown children live in the Kansas City area: her daughter is an OB-GYN resident and her son is a mental health counselor.
Karen’s life in Johnson County is rich with friends, neighbors and colleagues on both sides of the political aisle. Yet, she’s seen our legislature shift further toward the extreme right, alienating those whose views and values are rooted in common sense, reasonable ideals. Karen’s campaign is fueled by a desire to reach residents who feel disconnected – and a belief that we all deserve leaders who listen.
Karen is a longtime volunteer with Lead to Read KC, providing reading and mentoring support to elementary students at high-need schools. She also volunteers with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her family and doting on their dogs, Tanner (an Australian Shepard) and Leo (a dachshund).
